Abstract

Purpose: The present study aimed to validate a comprehensive model of parental participation in school educational decision-making.

Methods and Materials: This study employed a quantitative, applied, and descriptive-correlational design using a survey approach. The statistical population consisted of teachers, school principals, vice-principals, and educational experts working in secondary schools in Mazandaran Province. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire developed based on the conceptual dimensions of parental participation in educational decision-making. The instrument included components related to causal factors, central phenomena, contextual factors, intervening factors, strategies, and outcomes. Face and content validity were established through expert review, while construct validity and reliability were assessed through structural equation modeling. Data were analyzed using SmartPLS software.

Findings: The results demonstrated that all constructs possessed acceptable reliability and validity. Factor loadings exceeded the minimum acceptable threshold, Cronbach’s alpha and composite reliability values were above 0.70, and AVE values confirmed convergent validity. Discriminant validity was also supported. The structural model showed substantial explanatory power, with R² values ranging from 0.613 to 0.770 and Q² values ranging from 0.368 to 0.603. The overall goodness-of-fit index (GOF = 0.554) indicated strong predictive capability.

Conclusion: The findings confirmed the validity of the proposed model and demonstrated that parental participation in educational decision-making is a multidimensional process shaped by interconnected motivational, contextual, organizational, and strategic factors.
